Barceló avant
Barceló (1973 – 1982)
20 November 2009 to 28 February 2010
For the first time, the Barceló avant Barceló exhibition
(1973-1982) presents a selection of original, little-known works
by Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, Mallorca, 1957), produced prior to
the establishment of his international reputation at the “Kassel
Documenta” in 1982.
The exhibition highlights the use of a range of artistic languages
that includes painting, drawing, visual poetry, spectacular installations
and book illustrations. A rich, varied repertoire, with surprising
results.
There are six main themes - Bestiary, Vanity, Experimental poetry,
Books, Portraits and self-portraits and Landscape components –
which define the basic directions in which the artist was working
during this period. These were later converted into some of the
central themes for all his future work.
